Bernard D’Souza International Fellowship Award
• Awarded to Dr. Nicolás Garófalo Gómez, Neuropediatrician. The award was presented at the 48th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Pediatric Neurology in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA (October 2019). This award is awarded annually to two Neuropediatricians from developing countries with the purpose of promoting the development of Neuropediatrics in those countries. It is the first time it has been awarded to a Spanish-speaking Latin American.
AANEM “President’s Research Initiative” Award
• Awarded to the work “Cutaneous silent periods in patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis” Authors: Lic. Rachel Pérez-Lalana, Dra. Gloria Lara, Dr. Tatiana Zaldívar and DrC.Joel Gutiérrez. This award is given to the most outstanding works presented at the Annual Congress of the American Association for Neuromuscular Diseases and Electrodiagnosis (AANEM). It is one of the most important prizes awarded by the AANEM. The award funds participation in Congress and publication of the work in Muscle and Nerve magazine.
Annual Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.
• Compilation of works: Electrophysiological Characterization of Family Dysautonomia. Awarded to Dr. CM Joel Gutiérrez Gil and coauthors from the New York University Department of Neurology. This work summarizes the results of a set of investigations developed by the author in patients with Hereditary and Dysautonomic Neuropathies from 2009 to 2018.
Award from the Ministry of Higher Education for the best scientific degree thesis in the area of Biomedicine.
Thesis: Morbidity and risk factors for stroke
• Awarded to the Dr. C. Juan Carlos Llibre Guerra for his scientific degree thesis Door-to-door epidemiological study aimed at determining the prevalence, incidence and risk factors of stroke in the Cuban population, including its relationship with the proportion of genes of African origin.
